Year 6

Keep up to date via the Year 6 blog!

Welcome to Year 6!

In their final year with us at All Saints’ Church of England Junior School, our pupils will experience an exciting educational programme. The topics the Year 6s will be exploring with Mrs Arnold and Mrs O’Callaghan, Mrs Pyne and Mrs Greenhough are World War 1, Antarctica and Changes in British Life Since the 1940s.

During our Autumn topic WW1, pupils will be participating in a WW1 Day, led by the History Van. The fun-filled day of activities include life in 1914,, enlisting, training, comfort boxes, propaganda, rationing, land armies, medals and earning a living. In addition, a  residential trip to Normandy, France gives pupils the opportunity to practise their French speaking and understanding skills in real life situations. Pupils will be invited to experience a variety of French food and culture. The visit to the Somme battle grounds and memorials will develop pupils WW1 topic learning and the fallen will be remembered.

During Parliament Week in November,  we are lucky enough to have Bishop Alastair and our local MP, Patrick McLaughlin visiting us. Both speakers will answer all of the pupils' questions about Parliament, Democracy and the role of a Peer and an MP.

In the Spring, we will be learning about Antarctica and carrying out some scientific investigations. This will be supported by the International Polar Foundation, who will be visiting Year 6 for a special Antarctica Day.

Our exciting educational visits programme also includes a trip to a Mosque, the National Memorial  Arboretum and nearby Chatsworth House.

Alongside this rich curriculum, Mrs Arnold and Mrs O’Callaghan will be preparing the children for their onward journey to secondary education by encouraging independence, organisation and time management skills.

Please take a look around our Year 6 pages to see what we’ve been getting up to and what we will be doing! If you have any questions about our Year 6 curriculum, please don’t hesitate to come and have a chat with Mrs Arnold or Mrs O'Callaghan.
