Physical Education and school sports

At All Saints’ we place great emphasis on PE and school sport. We aim to provide a high-quality Physical Education curriculum which inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in both competitive sport and non-competitive activities. We provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health, fitness and well-being. The children regularly compete in both intra and inter school sport as well as other activities. This helps to build character and embed values such as fairness and mutual respect.

Sports for All

All Saints’ Federation is a two form entry school. We aim to teach a progression of skills, leading to children being able to participate in and enjoy a range of individual and team sports and develop fitness and agility for life. We want all of our children to grow up enjoying physical activity and hope that they find an individual interest in sport that they can carry forward into the future.

From Year 2, the children take part in inter and intra school festivals, playing in small teams and working together. We recognise that from this point, many children begin to play sport competitively. We try and ensure that all children from Year 2 upwards have the opportunity to take part either in a sporting fixture or festival during the school year as they discover new types of sport!

We are often able to offer children further opportunities as they reach Year 5 and 6. Some of these are highly competitive and lead onto regional, county and national events. For these competitions, trials will usually take place and a team will be selected based on these. Usually, more than one member of staff will be involved in selection for such competitions. There are many competitions, though, that are festivals in their own right, and our school often seeks to enter more than one team in an attempt to include as many children as possible.
